How to Become a UGC Creator on TikTok (No Followers Needed)

How to become a UGC creator on TikTok: what to film, how to use your account as a sample reel, how to pitch brands and how to price your first deals.

To become a UGC creator on TikTok, you film short, native-feeling product videos, post a handful as samples, and pitch brands who want that style of ad content. You do not need a big following, because brands pay UGC creators for the video they deliver, not for the audience on your account.

That distinction trips up most people who start on TikTok. An influencer sells reach. A UGC creator sells a finished video that the brand posts or runs as an ad from its own account. Your TikTok profile is a showroom, not the product.

What a TikTok UGC creator actually does

A brand sends you a product (or a brief), you film a testimonial, demo, unboxing or problem-solution video, and you hand over the file. The brand then runs it on its own channels, often as a paid ad. You might never post it yourself.

TikTok matters for two reasons. It is where the format was born, so brands want videos that look like the For You page rather than a studio spot. And it is a free place to show samples where brands already browse.

Do you need followers?

No. A small or brand-new account is fine, as long as the videos on it look like something a brand would be glad to run. Brands look for four things:

  • A clear first two seconds that stops the scroll.
  • Clean audio and steady, well-lit footage.
  • Believable on-camera delivery that does not sound like a script.
  • Proof you can follow a brief: hook, benefit, proof, call to action.

Follower counts only matter if you also want to be paid to post on your own page, which is a different (influencer) deal with different pricing. For plain UGC, a creator with a few hundred followers and strong videos beats a creator with a big audience and sloppy ones.

Build your TikTok samples before you pitch

You need roughly five to eight videos that show range. Nobody has to have hired you for them. Buy or borrow products you already use and film them as if a brand had briefed you.

Pick one or two niches to start

Brands hire for fit, so a focused account converts better than a random mix. Skincare, fitness, food, pets, home and tech all have steady demand. Our niche guides, such as UGC for skincare creators, show the formats and hooks each niche tends to buy.

Film different formats, not the same video five times

  • A talking-head testimonial.
  • A hands-only demo with voiceover.
  • An unboxing.
  • A problem-solution video with a strong hook.
  • A short "what I'd tell a friend" review.

Make the account look like a portfolio

Pin your three best samples. Put "UGC creator" and your niche in the bio, plus one link. That link should open on a page where a brand can watch your videos, see your rates and contact you in one place. If you have no other site yet, our guide to building a UGC portfolio from scratch walks through it.

How to get your first TikTok UGC deals

Samples sit unseen unless you put them in front of brands. Three routes work for new creators.

Pitch brands directly

Find small and mid-sized brands that already run TikTok ads (search their name in TikTok's ad library or watch for ads in your own feed). Send a short message or email that says who you are, links one relevant sample and names one idea for their product. For example:

"Hi, I'm a UGC creator who makes testimonial-style videos for skincare. I filmed a sample on a product similar to yours here: [link]. I'd love to make a 30 second version for you, with two hook options. My rates are on my page."

Keep it under 60 words. One link, one idea, one ask.

Answer open briefs

Creator marketplaces and brand posts regularly ask for UGC creators. These are crowded, so apply fast and include a sample that matches the product.

Let your content do some of the pitching

When you post a sample, tag the product category and describe the format in the caption ("UGC testimonial for a face serum"). Brand managers search these terms. Some inquiries will come to you.

What to charge as a new TikTok UGC creator

Pricing is where most beginners undercharge or freeze. Treat it as a structure, not a guess: a base fee per video, plus add-ons for extra hooks, raw footage, paid usage and rush delivery.

The ugcbios rate calculator's starting point for someone with 0 to 10 paid videos is $100 for a video up to 30 seconds and $115 for 30 to 60 seconds. Once you have 10 to 50 paid videos, the same calculator starts at $175 and $200. Those are starting points to adjust by niche, not market data. The full breakdown is in what to charge per video, hook and add-on.

Here is an example of how a small brief adds up for a growing creator.

Example line itemAmount
3 UGC videos (30–60s) at $200 each$600
Bundle discount (10%, 3+ videos in one brief)-$60
3 extra hooks at $50 each$150
Paid usage rights, 30 days (25% of video fee)$135
Total$825

Notice the usage line. If a brand wants to run your video as an ad, that is paid usage, and it is priced separately from the filming. If they want your account to run it through Spark Ads, that is whitelisting, which is also priced separately. Say so in your first reply rather than after the video is done.

Get paid and protect yourself

Keep the process boring and clear:

  • Agree the deliverables, length, number of hooks and usage window in writing before you film.
  • Ask for part of the fee up front on bigger briefs.
  • State how many revision rounds are included.
  • Deliver files in vertical 9:16 with clean audio, and name them clearly.

If a brand asks for "all rights forever" for a flat fee, treat that as a pricing conversation, not a favour. Longer windows should cost more.

Your TikTok bio gets one link, so use it well. A page with a playable portfolio, a rate card and an inquiry form turns a profile visit into a booked brief. You can set that up free on ugcbios, then link it from TikTok and your pitch emails.
